Library Services for Students

Connecting to the EC Network

When on campus, you can connect your personal devices to our Network through EC_Wireless. We recommend you connect to EC_Wireless instead of the Guest network. You will then need to open a web browser and use your EC username and password to log in. You should only need to do this once per device.

For information about registering a personal device, visit IT Resources and Services.

If you experience problems, please reach out to the IT Help Desk for assistance. You can reach us at (607) 735-1915 or by email at helpdesk@elmira.edu

Password Reset

If you forgot your password or would like to reset it, you can do so by going to https://ecpasswordreset.elmira.edu You will use your Elmira College username (i.e. mtwain) and can either type in your current password or select “forgot password.” The “forgot password” option will then ask you to answer 3 security questions before being able to reset your password. If you have any issues, please contact the IT Help Desk at (607)735-1915 or helpdesk@elmira.edu.

Library Materials

Print Books

LECOM students may borrow print books from the GTL after establishing a borrower’s account by presenting their EC ID card at the Library Services Desk during regular business hours. LECOM students’ accounts expire at the end of each academic year, and may be renewed as long as students are enrolled at LECOM. Lending policies for LECOM students are identical to those of EC students.

Electronic Resources

The GTL’s electronic resources do not support a medical school curriculum, but are available to LECOM students on a limited basis. LECOM students are encouraged to utilize electronic resources provided by the LECOM Learning Resource Center.

Power Strips

LECOM students with a borrower’s account may check out Power strips at the Library Services Desk for 5-hour periods for use in the library only.

Recreational Reading

The GTL does not maintain a collection of popular reading material or current entertainment videos. The Chemung County Library District, with branches in Elmira, West Elmira, Big Flats, Horseheads, and Van Etten, is an excellent source for recreational print, audio and video materials, as well as programs for users of all ages. LECOM students may obtain a CCLD borrower’s card by presenting their LECOM ID card at any branch.

Research Help

LECOM students are encouraged to seek research help from the LECOM library staff, who are uniquely prepared to address your needs. If you have questions not related to the LECOM curriculum, the Gannett-Tripp Library’s Research Help staff will help you solve your research problems. Research Help service is available every day that the Gannett-Tripp Library is open.

Phone: (607) 735-1862

E-mail: researchhelp@elmira.edu (a librarian will reply within one business day when classes are in session)

Research Consultation: If you're having trouble finding material for a research project, you can schedule a research consultation. Contact Marge Kappanadze at (607) 735-1867 or at mkappanadze@elmira.edu to make an appointment.

Study Spaces

The GTL offers students a variety of areas of private or collaborative study:

Quiet Study room (2nd floor, south) -- Please note that the entire 2nd floor is for quiet study.

Group Study rooms (1st and 2nd floors)

Library Carrels for individual study, 2nd floor

Group Study room with TV and HDMI connectivity (Study Room W1, 2nd floor)

Classrooms are available for group study when no class is in session. Classroom technology can be used for practicing presentations or for collaborating on a project.

Conference Room with technology (terrace level, south)

The Malesardi Finance Trading Center, the Writing Center, the Tutoring Center, the Tripp Lecture Hall, conference rooms, and classrooms can be used for study when no classes, meetings, or tutoring are in session.

Reserving Rooms

Classrooms and conference rooms can be reserved (for times when no classes or meetings are in session). Long range, continual booking is discouraged so that all students can have the opportunity to use those spaces. Study rooms cannot be reserved, but are available on a first come, first served basis. During mid-terms and finals weeks, and at other times during the year, study rooms might be reserved for testing. Contact the Library Services Desk, (607) 735-1862, for help.

Interlibrary Loan

The LECOM Learning Resource Center participates in the National Library of Medicine’s DOCLINE system, and will process interlibrary loan requests for articles for all authorized LECOM users.  The GTL’s Interlibrary Loan service does not maintain borrowing relationships with institutions that collect materials in support of a medical school curriculum, and will not provide interlibrary loan service to LECOM students.

Print, Copy, Scan

Printing with PaperCut

If you would like to print on campus, you will need to add money onto your account. You can do so by going to https://ecprint.elmira.edu/user, logging in with your EC username and password, and click “Add credit (Credit/Paypal).” Any unused funds on your account will roll over from term to term.

Once funds have been added, you will then be able to print or make copies on any printer located on the first and terrace floors of the Gannett-Tripp library.

Printing costs are as follows:

  • Single Sided Black and White: $0.055/page
  • Double Sided Black and White: $0.045/side
  • Single Sided Color: $0.10/page
  • Double Sided Color: $0.095/side

The Library has one Brother print-only printer and two Toshiba print-copy-scan printers on the first floor, plus printers in the Computer Labs in the Nathanson Computer Center on the terrace level. The default setting for printers is double-sided, but can be changed for single-sided printing. Visit the IT Help Desk to set up wireless printing from laptops or other portable devices.

Color printing is available from the two Toshiba print-copy-scan printers on the Library's first floor.

Please see more information about the College's printing policies on the College's Information Technology page, under Print Management:  https://www.elmira.edu/Student/Offices_Resources/Information_Technology/Print_Management.html

There is no public fax machine in the library, but one is available in the Student Life office in the Campus Center.  Faxing is available for a fee at various locations in the Elmira area, including the Steele Memorial Library, Staples, and Copy Express.

Lost and Found

Have you misplaced something in the Library? Check at the Library Services Desk. Found items are sent to the Campus Safety Office at the end of each week. Valuable items (keys, IDs, wallets, cell phones, jewelry, etc.) are sent to Campus Safety as soon as they're found.
